Dr. Steven E. Brooks
Louisburg

Dr. Steven E. Brooks, former executive director of the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority (NCSEAA), continues to do some professional consulting, most notably with the North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities. Prior to his time leading the NCSEAA, Dr. Brooks spent two decades in student financial aid administration at Wake Forest University and Louisburg College. He has served on numerous state and national boards and committees, including the Reimagining Aid Design and Delivery project of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and with the College Board, where he was a trustee and is, currently, its Parliamentarian. He also served as chair of the Board of Directors of the National Council of Higher Education Loan Programs (now NCHER), chair of the College Scholarship Service (CSS) Assembly and president of the North Carolina Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NCASFAA). A former Peace Corps volunteer in the Marshall Islands, Dr. Brooks has received several honors, including the CSS Distinguished Service Award and the NCASFAA Distinguished Service Award, and has been inducted as one of 50 inaugural members of the CSS Hall of Fame. His history of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, The First Twenty Years, won the Robert P. Huff Golden Quill Award in 1986. He was named to the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in 2014. He is a member of the Louisburg College Board of Trustees, immediate past chair of the National Student Clearinghouse Board of Directors and a member of the Board of Directors of Mapping Your Future. Dr. Brooks earned his B.A., M.A. and Doctor of Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
