This month, we recognize that 20 years have passed since that fateful day of September 11, 2001 when our nation – and our spirit – was forever changed by a terrorist attack. Although the attacks were not physically felt on North Carolina soil, for many North Carolinians, the events of September 11th were deeply personal and impactful.
I’m sure any of you who are old enough to remember can recollect exactly where you were when you heard the news of the Twin Towers collapsing. 9/11 will forever be etched in our memories.
I invite you to watch our new broadcast special 9/11: We Remember where our talented producers Heather Burgiss and Jonathan Duran combine thoughtful storytelling and artful work to give us an intimate look back on that tragic day and how it has shaped us for generations to come.

A compelling documentary about a unique group of Americans: the 16 young people who were with President Bush in a Florida classroom on the morning of September 11, 2001 as the president received the news of the attack. The former classmates, all in their mid-20s, are still trying to find their footing in a country and world shaped so much by 9/11.

StoryCorps’ September 11th Initiative was launched in 2005 in partnership with the National September 11 Memorial & Museum to record at least one story to honor each of the lives lost during the attacks on September 11, 2001, and the February 26, 1993 World Trade Center bombing.
