Internships at PBS North Carolina

PBS North Carolina offers a robust internship program for currently enrolled students interested in public media. Areas of interest include marketing and communications, business administration, fundraising, social media, production, post-production, editing and much more.

Our internship program provides students with transformational experiences and offers a trusted learning experience for students interested in a variety of media careers. We strive to serve our interning students as thoroughly and passionately as we do the rest of North Carolina.

Available Internships

Length of Internships: 8 – 15 weeks, not to exceed 200 total hours, beginning in June 2024

Hourly Rate: $15.00/hour

NOTE: Interns will receive a transportation stipend and must live in North Carolina.

Criteria for Applying

  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
    AND
  • Be at least a full-time undergraduate student (12 semester hours) or graduate student (9 semester hours)

MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS

Digital Marketing Intern

The Digital Marketing intern will help the team with planning, evaluating and managing marketing promotions in line with our strategy across multiple initiatives and platforms. This position supports the Digital Marketing team’s focus to meet changing audience behaviors by creating rich digital content experiences across platforms, including pbsnc.org, the PBS App, and 3rd party platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

The intern will contribute to marketing plan strategy and execution for PBS NC’s summer and fall initiatives, including PBS priorities, PBS NC productions, digital-first initiatives, programs from our Education division and more.

Additionally, the Digital Marketing intern will learn more about and contribute to the full marketing lifecycle of related projects, and learn more about best practices for digital marketing and social media platforms. The intern will have hands-on responsibilities in implementing and reporting on marketing campaigns.

CONTENT

Digital Content Creator Intern

The Sci NC Team is seeking a part-time intern to produce digital science content for Sci NC's social media channels and to prepare content for studio productions. The ideal candidate should have strong communication skills, a working knowledge of Premiere Pro, and familiarity with social media.

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Intern will receive a transportation stipend and must live in North Carolina.

DEVELOPMENT

Audience Services Intern

Audience Services has a large volume of returned USPS donor mail that will need to be reviewed and updated if an address was supplied to donor accounts to ensure correct receipt of mail. We will also request that the intern assist with data entry for the mailed survey responses.

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Intern will receive a transportation stipend and must live in North Carolina.

Production Assistant Intern

PBS NC is looking for self-motivated, creative and flexible Production Assistant intern to join a fast-paced and dynamic Studio and Field Production team. This intern will work closely with select members of the PBS NC Production team to experience live-to-tape weekly show productions as well as field shoots for local broadcast and digital programs.

Intern will receive a transportation stipend and must live in North Carolina.

CONTENT

National Productions Intern

The National Productions Team is seeking a part-time intern to work on various departmental projects, from broadcast to digital. This position will support the team on research and development of projects for national distribution and reporting on existing projects to be shared with key stakeholders. Specifically, this role will require research, analytics, writing, presentation, and administrative duties. This role will work on the documentary series Reel South as it builds out its digital presence. The ideal candidate should have strong communication skills, be highly competent in administrative tasks, as well as fluent in the Google Suite, Microsoft Office (specifically Powerpoint). Preference for those with experience with YouTube.

The selected intern will be guaranteed 1:1 professional development time with our National Productions Team, who will advise and assist the intern as they build their own roadmap for early career success.

CONTENT

Public Affairs Intern

PBS NC’s NC Channel & Original Productions team is looking for a self-starter who has a strong desire to learn and can successfully demonstrate proficiency and dedication. This position will offer opportunities for training in skills linked with digital content creation, studio-based TV program creation and post-production duties related to content creation, project management and content distribution. This intern can expect a fully robust experience in project coordination, associate producing and line producing, including video editing, script review, working with on-air talent, adhering to deadlines for show productions, timing broadcast shows in the control room and Tech Check duties and digital distribution.

Additionally, this position will present opportunities to work across PBS NC departments to ensure broadcast and digital content is delivered on time, in correct formatting and is ultimately distributed.

Due to the limited timeframe for this opportunity, this intern can expect an accelerated skills-training experience.

CONTENT

Archival Assistant Intern

The Archival Assistant Intern will enter metadata in detail for past and current PBS NC productions and B-Roll. The archival intern for PBS North Carolina will also be responsible for viewing current and legacy media and entering the description of the content in detail for future use by in-house and external producers.

Intern will receive a transportation stipend and must live in NC.

What Interns Can Expect From Their Experience

  • Start date in early June 2024.
  • Opportunity to engage as an intern cohort with a professional coach, addressing self-development topics that focus on the important emotional side of a career.
  • Occasion to shadow immersive experiences such as production shoots and/or watching a live taping of a studio production.
  • An invitation to connect directly with senior leaders and our executive team.
  • Participation in a “job shadow day," involving spending time with other internship supervisors to gain an understanding of how each department within the organization is interconnected to achieve our mission.
  • Opportunity to provide feedback on the internship program in order to help shape experiences for future students.
