Sharing Your Vision

PBS North Carolina enthusiastically works with creative, passionate independent producers and filmmakers from across North Carolina and our region. We proudly showcase independently-produced content across our multiple platforms, including PBS NC, the Explorer Channel, North Carolina Channel and Rootle, as well as pbsnc.org and our other digital media outlets.

If you are creating content that you'd like to share with PBS North Carolina's audience, please review the following guidelines.

Some Guidelines for Submissions

We are most interested in content directly related to PBS North Carolina's mission of educating, enlightening and inspiring our members and viewers across the state. Topics and areas of interest include:

  • arts/culture
  • cooking/Southern foodways
  • documentary
  • history
  • public affairs
  • science
  • travel

Topics or types of programming we are unable to review include advocacy programs, commercial or promotional programs, and religious programs.

While PBS North Carolina receives many more submissions and proposals than we could possibly use across our platforms, all best efforts will be made to respond to inquiries within six weeks of submission date.

Please also note that PBS North Carolina does not currently have dedicated funding for the production of independent projects, or the staff capacity to help you raise funds.

Resources PBS North Carolina can offer include:

  • in-kind production and post-production services
  • distribution
  • consulting
  • letters of support
  • broadcast or streaming on our platforms

Independent productions may be presented as series, standalone programs, or folded into some of our current productions, such as Reel South or NC Weekend. PBS North Carolina also seeks digital content for pbsnc.org and our other digital platforms.

Click here to access PBS North Carolina's online application, including a place to post your work sample and digitally agree to our submission release form (terms of use). This information helps us review your program or proposal.

Thank you for your interest in collaborating with PBS North Carolina! We look forward to reviewing your materials.

PBS North Carolina & SDF NC Independents Listening Tour

As part of an extensive strategic review, PBS North Carolina partnered with the Southern Documentary Fund to organize, promote & moderate a series of meetings with independent media makers from around North Carolina. Four meetings took place in Raleigh, Winston-Salem, Charlotte, and Wilmington during the fall of 2014 and winter of 2015. Click to view the report of these conversations.
