South Florida PBS Changing Seas summer screenings were back for season 16! The event took place on Wednesday, July 17th at NSU's Halmos College of Arts and Sciences with an exciting screening of "Eagle Rays: Soaring on Spotted Wings."

Despite its designation as globally “endangered,” relatively little was known about the whitespotted eagle rays’ ecology and life history. Florida scientists combined cutting-edge technology with creative approaches to gain deeper insight into the movement and diet of this elegant fish – allowing them to experience the world from a ray’s point of view for the first time.

After the screening, featured scientists joined for an engaging talk-back, discussing their experience working on the episode and answering audience questions. The event concluded with a complimentary reception featuring wine and light bites.

Major funding was provided by The Batchelor Foundation. Additional funding was provided by Trish and Dan Bell & The Parrot Family Endowment for Environmental Education.

On Friday, June 28th, 2024, attendees gathered at Savor Cinema in Ft. Lauderdale for an exciting evening of film screenings and discussions with talented filmmakers for the 'Film-maker Season 6 Screening Event!" The event opened with a pre-screening cocktail reception catered by Sidecar Kitchen, featuring a live performance from DJ Hii Rickyy (@hii.rickyy) and a fun photobooth activation by We Create Forever Co. (@wecreateforever.co).

A highlights reel of all nine of our season 6 winning films was screened, followed by a talk-back with our filmmakers hosted by the South Florida PBS Principal Director of Content and producer of Film-maker, Melissa Harmon. It was an exciting evening of cinema and culture.

Film-maker Season 6 is brought to you by Friends of South Florida PBS.

We had a great time at the On the Town in The Palm Beaches 'Exploring the Wild Western Communities' Premiere Event on June 25th at the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center in Belle Glade!

In the season 7 finale of On the Town, host Frank Licari left the bustling cities to explore the west. Guests joined us for a pre-screening reception featuring live music and light bites. They were the first to view the full episode, and the event wrapped up with a community conversation with Frank and the On the Town team.
