Denver Public Library branches begin phased reopening March 9

DENVER — Denver Public Library has reached a new chapter of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tuesday, March 9, nine DPL branches will opened for public use as part of a phased reopening plan.

According to a press release from DPL, “locations will open with limited hours to allow for cleaning and with limited capacity to allow for physical distancing.”

Denver Public Libraries are opening after almost a year due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The first nine branches to reopen are:

  • Bear Valley Branch Library
  • Ross-Cherry Creek Branch Library
  • Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales Branch Library
  • Green Valley Ranch Branch Library, Hampden Branch Library
  • Sam Gary Branch Library
  • Ross-University Hills Branch Library
  • Valdez-Perry Branch Library
  • Westwood Branch Library

 

Mayor Michael Hancock applauded the announcement on Twitter.

The branches will be open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Westwood Branch Library, however, will be open Tuesday to Friday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Furniture and computer workstations at the branches have been rearranged to allow for better social distancing. Meeting rooms and study rooms, including the ideaLABs, will remain closed.

DPL says it plans to open more branches in early April. Curbside pick-up will still be available at these nine branches. More information on curbside services and hours is available here.

COVID-19 deaths and hospitalizations continue to decline in Denver, although the seven-day average of new cases has ticked up in recent weeks. More city-specific data, including how many residents have been vaccinated, are available on the Denver Public Health website.
