Pam Giganti - Your South Florida

Pam Giganti is a veteran newswoman and an Emmy Award winning journalist who has worked in the radio and television industry for the last 26 years. Most recently, she led the morning team at WTVJ NBC 6 as anchor of NBC 6 South Florida Today for nearly 15 years. She is currently an adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Communication.

Giganti has covered presidents and leaders, soldiers in wartime, and devoted countless hours to hurricane coverage and breaking news in South Florida over the past two decades. Perhaps one of Giganti’s most memorable and unusual reports was the time she jumped out of an airplane and broadcast live for a radio show in a tandem skydive.

In 2009, Giganti was recognized with an Emmy for her work on the health special, “Breast Cancer: Interactive.” She’s garnered Emmy nominations for her story about a young cancer patient fighting Leukemia, for anchoring breaking news coverage of a deadly highway chase and crash, as well as her live on camera work for a series called, “Brag About Your School.” She’s been recognized with an NBC Ovation award for Outstanding Teamwork and a Certificate of Excellence.

Giganti began her television career at WSVN Channel 7 after returning to Florida following her husband’s service in the U.S. Navy in San Diego, California. At WSVN she worked as an associate producer and rose to the ranks of weathercaster, reporter and evening news anchor. Giganti began her broadcast career in radio in Pensacola, Florida and worked as a radio news anchor, reporter and traffic reporter in San Diego. She graduated Cum Laude from the University of West Florida’s professionally accredited Communication Arts program in 1990.

Giganti has always believed that “to whom much is given, much is expected.” She lends her time to several charitable and children’s organizations. She has twice served as Principal of the Day with Miami-Dade Public Schools. She has reported on and participated in Broward Health’s Chris Evert Childrens Hospital’s “Powerful Kidcare” Program.

Giganti is a former board member of the Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. She has worked with the anti-drug organization and statewide Red Ribbon campaign founders, Informed Families. She has served as a mentor to at risk high school girls with Women of Tomorrow since 2002.

Giganti is married and the proud mother of three daughters.
