Television and Video Production Program

Milwaukee Area Technical College students enrolled in the Television and Video Production program have the opportunity to learn and work in the studios of Milwaukee PBS, a national leader in high-definition production and programming.

Students acquire industry-standard skills for broadcast TV, cable, and corporate or commercial video. This is one of the few programs in the entire country in which students gain direct, hands-on experience with HDTV production and broadcasting.

The Television and Video Production program is just one example of the critical hands- on aspect of what students at MATC learn. Many MATC programs allow professional experience that makes a big difference when starting a career.

Digital Content Creation/eProduction

Students explore and study the technology, production processes and methods of distribution for media intended to reach audiences across a wide array of devices and accessibility.

Projects/skills include producing podcasts, mastering DSLR cinematic videography, directing livestreams and developing, producing and pitching a full Web series.

Each May, over 50 years of student broadcast program production experiences at MATC/MPBS culminate with the annual Student Operations Day event!  In 2024, Saturday, May 4th is that day where students will be broadcasting original student-produced content. A mix of recorded and live programming will be featured throughout the day.

Students assume professional roles for this project that include Executive Producer, promotions, writer, producer, videographer, editor and other roles found in the media
industry.

The student team works together to plan, create and produce new content, schedule it for air, and organize 4 hours of live studio broadcasting as well as filling the MPBS broadcast schedule for WMVT 36.1 all day long.
