ABOUT 'THE LITTLE MATCH GIRL'

Story: Hans Christian Andersen, retold by David Warner
Music: Mack Wilberg
The Little Match Girl:Bailey Southam
Grandmother:Marion Ingram

Hans Christian Andersen’s classic Christmas tale “The Little Match Girl” first appeared in print in 1845. Though superficially tragic, this renowned story emphasizes more directly the Match Girl’s faith, her visions of goodness and abundance, and the unfailing love of her grandmother. On that wintery night, it was the Match Girl who felt heaven’s warmth and comfort, not the passersby who ignored her plight.

In this dramatization of “The Little Match Girl,” Rolando Villazón narrates David Warner’s new iteration of the poignant tale over the Orchesta’s backdrop of original music by Mack Wilberg, as the Choir provides commentaries on nurturing the divine spark of faith and love.
