Membership Manager (Fargo, ND)
Position Summary
The Membership Manager is a visionary leader responsible for shaping and advancing Prairie Public’s membership strategy during a transformational moment for public media. This position leads a small but mighty membership team that plays a critical role in sustaining Prairie Public’s mission through donor engagement, retention, audience growth, and multi-platform fundraising.
The Membership Manager is instrumental in retaining and growing Prairie Public’s member base while developing innovative strategies that deepen audience connection and long-term philanthropic support. This role oversees membership campaigns across television, radio, digital, direct mail, and emerging platforms while ensuring a donor-centered experience that reflects Prairie Public’s values of trust, service, and community.
Working collaboratively across departments, the Membership Manager helps position Prairie Public for long-term sustainability by strengthening relationships with supporters and identifying new opportunities for growth in an evolving public media landscape.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic direction, vision, and execution of Prairie Public’s membership and annual giving program.
- Develop and implement innovative multi-channel fundraising strategies focused on member acquisition, retention, sustainer growth, and revenue generation.
- Oversee the planning, execution, and analysis of on-air television and radio fundraising campaigns, including strategy development, messaging, goals, and donor experience.
- Develop and manage integrated fundraising campaigns across direct mail, digital fundraising, telemarketing, email, social media, and special initiatives.
- Analyze fundraising performance, donor trends, and campaign effectiveness to guide decision-making and maximize revenue opportunities.
- Utilize data and audience insights to strengthen donor retention, increase lifetime value, and improve member engagement.
- Work closely with the Director of Development to establish annual revenue goals, campaign strategies, and expense projections.
- Collaborate across all Prairie Public departments to align fundraising efforts with organizational priorities, programming, community engagement, and brand strategy.
- Manage relationships with fundraising vendors, consultants, agencies, and service providers.
- Stay informed on trends and best practices in public media fundraising, philanthropy, audience development, and donor engagement.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in leadership, management, or a related field.
Experience in fundraising and membership programs is preferred, along with familiarity using CRM and data systems to support donor engagement and strategy.
Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge
The Membership Manager exercises sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information. This role requires strong leadership, analytical, and organizational skills, along with close attention to detail and the ability to use CRM and data systems to inform strategy and decision-making.
The ideal candidate represents Prairie Public with professionalism and authenticity, demonstrating excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. They build meaningful relationships with donors, colleagues, and the public while managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment with a proactive, solutions-oriented approach.
This position calls for a self-starter who works effectively both independently and collaboratively, with a commitment to continuous improvement. Flexibility is essential, including occasional mornings, evenings, and weekends to support campaigns and events, as well as the ability to perform routine physical tasks such as lifting materials up to 25–30 pounds.
