THE STORY GOES ON (FROM 'BABY')

Lea Salonga and The Tabernacle Choir perform a moving rendition of "The Story Goes On".

ABOUT 'THE STORY GOES ON'

Lyrics: Richard Maltby, Jr.
Music: David Shire
Arrangement: Mack Wilberg

The 1983 Broadway musical Baby, with lyrics by Richard Maltby, Jr. and music by Oscar-nominated composer David Shire, traces the reaction stories of three couples faced with navigating pregnancy and parenthood for the first time. The show earned seven Tony nominations in 1984, and later enjoyed several revivals and international productions.

Lea Salonga (who played one of the leads in the 2004 Manila production) explained to the audience at this 2022 Christmas concert that, like the women in Baby, the story of the Holy Nativity is also story about a woman—the virgin Mary—“a first-time mother with a unique role and responsibility.” And the feelings expressed in “The Story Goes On” from Baby are the feelings shared by women around the world.
