JOB SUMMARY:
The Development Officer plays a vital role in supporting PBS Reno’s mission by cultivating relationships with major donors and securing significant gifts ($10,000+). This position is ideal for a self-motivated individual with a passion for nonprofit fundraising and excellent interpersonal skills. The Development Officer will manage a portfolio of major donors, actively engage in donor meetings, and work closely with the Vice President of Development and CEO to advance PBS Reno’s fundraising goals. A strong candidate will have experience in major gift solicitation, prospect research, and donor stewardship. This is a
full-time position at 40 hours a week and often requires non-traditional work hours during evenings and weekends.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Major Giving:
- Manage Major Donor Portfolio: Oversee an active portfolio of donors contributing $1,200+ annually, focusing on securing major gifts of $10,000 and above.
- Donor Engagement and Stewardship: Build and maintain strong relationships with donors through personalized communication, recognition, and engagement activities. Prepare and execute strategies for face-to-face solicitations, ensuring successful gift closure.
- Prospect Research: Identify and research potential new major donors, utilizing
data-driven approaches to expand the donor base. - Collaborate Across Teams: Work with membership, marketing, and production departments to enhance outreach efforts and support fundraising initiatives.
- Event Participation: Assist in planning and hosting major donor events to engage and recognize high-level supporters.
- Community Engagement: Represent PBS Reno at public events, fostering relationships with community leaders and prospective donors.
- Planned Giving: Promote planned giving opportunities to donors, integrating these options into broader solicitation efforts.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED (an equivalent amount of training, education and experience will be considered):
- Fundraising Experience: Minimum of 3 years in fundraising, with proven success in direct, face-to-face major gift solicitations.
- Relationship Building: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and trust with donors, prospects, and colleagues.
- Planned Giving: Experience or interest in planned giving is preferred.
- Communication Skills: Strong writing and verbal communication skills, capable of effectively conveying PBS Reno’s mission and impact.
- Database Management: Experience using donor and sponsor databases to track and manage relationships.
