CentralCast Alliance Selects PBS Reno for West Coast Location
RENO, NV (JUN 2, 2026) – CentralCast Alliance, a centralized master control facility serving more than 50 PBS member stations nationwide, has signed a letter of intent to develop a second CentralCast site at PBS Reno’s location at 1670 N. Virginia Street in Reno, NV.
Based in Syracuse, NY, CentralCast Alliance supports a growing national infrastructure strategy designed to expand resilience, increase capacity, and improve service continuity for public television stations across the country.
“We are pleased to have been selected to partner with CentralCast as their west coast location,” said Kurt Mische, PBS Reno President & CEO. “Northern Nevada is a hub for technology and innovation, making this partnership a perfect fit. It will allow CentralCast to better serve its client stations. PBS Reno is once again at the cutting edge of innovation for our system.”
CentralCast helps television stations reduce the cost and complexity of broadcast operations by centralizing key master control functions. Instead of each station purchasing, maintaining, and replacing the same equipment independently, stations can share resilient infrastructure while preserving control of their local brand, programming, and schedules with the following applications:
- 24/7 monitored master control and playout operations that reduce the need for duplicative local equipment
- Integrated content distribution and signal management that help stations handle multiple broadcast and streaming channels efficiently
- Scalable systems that support multicast, OTT, and evolving broadcast needs such as ATSC 3.0 transitions
- Streamlined content exchange and scheduling workflows that improve reliability, responsiveness, and operational efficiency
By consolidating these technical functions, CentralCast enables stations to focus more resources on local service, audience engagement, and content production while benefiting from shared expertise and cost-efficient infrastructure.
“Public media’s infrastructure challenges are too important for stations to solve alone,” said Shadi Sabra, CentralCast Alliance President. “This partnership with PBS Reno is a meaningful step toward building shared and resilient infrastructure that protects local service and strengthens public media for the future.”
The CentralCast site at PBS Reno will be developed in phases, with a launch planned for early to mid-2027.
