GRANITE FALLS, Minn. — Barbaro and the Clay Hess Band will be the featured acts on an upcoming broadcast of Grassland Jam — the bluegrass and Americana music program produced by Pioneer PBS. The program will air on Saturday, March 21 at 7 p.m. CST and will be available for online viewing at 7:30 that night at www.pioneer.org/grasslandjam. The broadcast will be repeated on Monday, March 23 at noon.

Minneapolis and Winona-based Barbaro have created an eclectic sound through original songwriting craft, with inspiration derived from bluegrass, jazz and chamber music. Their new album, Dressed in Roses, released January 2020, “stands as a true testament to their musical identity and the sound that has launched one of the Midwest’s most in-demand acoustic acts,” according to Bluegrass Situation.

Clay Hess was known to many as the lead guitarist for Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, winning a Grammy Award during his tenure there. After departing Skaggs, Hess toured and recorded with several of the top bands in the genre. With the help of long-time friend and musical comrade Randy Kohrs, Clay recorded his critically acclaimed solo CD "Rain" with the title track going to No.1 on the Bluegrass Today chart. The Clay Hess Band, which Hess started in 2012, was previously featured in season 3 of Grassland Jam.

Grassland Jam is produced and edited by Matthew Johnson. The program is made possible by contributions from the voters of Minnesota through a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
