Around Akron with Blue Green
This monthly half-hour series is the work of Akron producer Blue Green, who says, “The goal of the show is to shine a spotlight on all of the good things that Akron has to offer.” Green noted that the city of Akron is a wonderful place in which to live, work, stay and play, but he feels “to truly be a great city, we need our own Akron-based news and local television programming.”
Each show consists of four stories, including segments on dining, arts and culture, history, business, and movers and shakers.

This month, Blue has an exciting visit with Jenn Kidd, the Executive Director of The Nightlight Cinema located in downtown Akron. During their conversation, they discuss the cinema’s recent expansion, which includes an ADA-compliant upgrade and the addition of a new theater, enhancing accessibility and audience experience. Following this, Blue heads over to Portage Lakes State Park to explore the rich history of Turkeyfoot Lake and its importance to the local community. While at the park, he also visits the Portage Lakes Visitor Center situated at Turkeyfoot Lake Beach. The beach area now features ADA-compliant restrooms and accessible beach, making it a truly inclusive destination suitable for everyone. To conclude the episode, Blue steps inside the new visitor center to speak with Caitlyn Skilton about this remarkable facility. Caitlyn describes it as a visually and audibly stunning educational space designed to engage visitors of all ages, offering a unique learning experience immersed in nature and community history.
