Season 32 of Prairie Yard & Garden to commence on January 17, 2019

GRANITE FALLS, Minn — For northern gardeners, the highly anticipated launch of Season 32 of Prairie Yard & Garden (PY&G) will come on Pioneer Public Television, Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. Mary Holm of Morris returns for her fifth season as host for this popular and respected science-based program. PY&G is produced by the University of Minnesota, Morris in collaboration with Pioneer Public Television. Production sponsorship is provided by ACIRA, Heartland Motors, Diamond Willow Advance Care Assisted Living and Shalom Hill Farm. Not many people use a real piano as their flower pot. Host Mary Holm visits with Vicky Dosdall of Morris, Minn. to see how she used a piano in her musically-themed garden. Wayne and Jean Lesmeister and their children have been growing many varieties of trees on their farm for years so area families can select and cut their own perfect tree for their holiday enjoyment.

Blueberries are full of antioxidants, are delicious to eat, but can be very hard to grow in most of Minnesota. Host Mary Holm travels to Parkers Prairie, Minn. to visit with Lewis Struthers who has grown blueberries for years. He offers advice on how to prepare the soil before planting and gives care tips to be able to grow these wonderful berries for a great harvest.

A barn quilt trail has just been created in Stevens County in West Central Minnesota. Host Mary Holm visits with Ward Voorhees, the man behind the trail, to learn what this is all about. Ward displays his barn quilts, tells how the barn quilt trail was created and then shows how he has matched his barn quilts to the beautiful flowers in his yard for a stunning display of color.

Bee-u-tiful Solar Energy

Host Mary Holm visits the solar energy farm of Connexus Energy near Ramsey, Minn. to find it not only produces energy for people, but is also a healthy environment for bees and other pollinators. Native plants growing among the solar panels provide a home, pollen and nectar for pollinators of all kinds, and a place for bee hives which are used to produce their special “solar honey.”
