Objective & Job Summary

The Digital Media Manager leads WEDU PBS's digital content, audience engagement, and social media strategy across platforms. This position is responsible for developing and executing digital initiatives that increase audience growth, engagement, brand awareness, and support for the station's mission. The Digital Media Manager oversees digital content strategy, manages staff and freelancers, collaborates across departments, and ensures WEDU maintains a strong and consistent presence across its website and social media platforms. This role also supports audience development, membership growth, fundraising initiatives, and digital conversion strategies that strengthen the station's long-term sustainability.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a results-driven digital media strategy.
  • Manage WEDU’s social media platforms, digital content, and audience engagement efforts.
  • Create, review, and maintain written, video, and photo content for digital platforms.
  • Develop content calendars, production schedules, and project workflows.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to support station initiatives, productions, and campaigns.
  • Develop audience growth and community engagement strategies.
  • Oversee viewer services processes and audience interactions across digital platforms.
  • Support promotion of local productions, PBS programming, membership campaigns, and special events.
  • Develop and manage digital-first content initiatives and original digital videos and series.
  • Oversee YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok content strategy, publishing, optimization, and audience development.
  • Analyze digital performance and prepare reports on audience growth, engagement, and campaign effectiveness.
  • Research digital trends and apply industry best practices.
  • Manage digital advertising efforts and approved departmental budgets.
  • Assist with fundraising, membership campaigns, audience conversion efforts, and pledge initiatives.
  • Support crisis communications, reputation management, and viewer escalations as needed.
  • Attend events as needed and produce live or real-time digital content.
  • Maintain a unified brand voice across all digital platforms.
  • Perform other duties of an incidental nature as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise digital media employees, contractors, interns, and freelancers.
  • Establish departmental goals, priorities, and performance expectations.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, and performance management activities.
  • Assign and monitor workloads to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for audience engagement, content creation, and digital media operations.
  • Foster a collaborative and productive team environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Digital Media, Public Relations, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in digital media, social media management, digital marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of leadership, supervisory, or project management experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms, digital content strategy, and audience development.
  • Excellent writing, editing, storytelling, and communication skills.
  • Experience creating and managing video, photo, and written content.
  • Experience with analytics and reporting tools including Google Analytics, YouTube Studio, Sprout Social, or similar platforms.
  • Experience managing projects, budgets, staff, contractors, and multiple priorities.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and community events.
  • Maintain compliance with WEDU’s safety, security, drug-free workplace, confidentiality, and intellectual property policies.
