"Higgins Ridge" Free Screening Event
Thursday, April 13 @ 6:30pm
Blue Fox Theatre, Grangeville, ID

Ahead of the broadcast premiere of Higgins Ridge on Idaho Public Television, the public is invited to attend a free screening of the documentary on Thursday, April 13, at 6:30 PM at the Blue Fox Theatre in Grangeville.

Higgins Ridge tells the story of 20 elite smokejumpers who were dropped onto a remote mountain ridge in Idaho’s Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness to fight a wildfire on August 4, 1961. What looked like a routine fire from the air became a different story on the ground, as winds fueled the blaze into a blowup. The first smokejumpers on Higgins Ridge were an eight-man planeload from Grangeville. Twelve smokejumpers from Missoula, Montana, were sent in as backup.

Following the film, Idaho Public Television’s Marcia Franklin will lead a discussion with Higgins Ridge producer Breanna McCabe, as well as with Tom Kovalicky, a Higgins Ridge smokejumper and a retired supervisor of the Nez Perce National Forest. There is no need to register, but please note that seating is limited to the first 200 guests.
