Congratulations!

The Digital Education Network (DEN) at Mississippi Public Broadcasting received peer nominations for teacher, facilitator, and student of the year for their classroom participation.  These nominees utilize, instruct and facilitate DEN services throughout the year.  We would like to congratulate the following winners:

  • Student of the year: Katelyn Alyssia Williams, Wilkinson County High School

Many classes are taught by instructors from Delta State University. MDE provides annual support for this service. Learn more about how the DEN can serve your school. We applaud the dedication of teachers, students, and administrators who make the DEN a success.

The Digital Education Network (DEN) is a free service to Mississippi schools designed to enhance learning through the utilization of technology. The DEN uses a variety of educational technology to deliver course content, enhance classroom instruction and provide resources not available on the local level. When a school can’t find a certified teacher, the DEN network can fill the void. The network assists school districts by offering courses to students regardless of their location. That means a teacher can instruct students assembled in a classroom hundreds of miles away through state-of-the-art technology!

Some technologies that the DEN incorporates include videoconferencing, streaming and downloading from the Internet, online professional development, and computers.

What is DEN?

MPB is the statewide hub for this technology, which is connected with interactive video networks throughout Mississippi, other states and countries. In conjunction with the Institutions of Higher Learning, DEN provides a variety of courses – mathematics, foreign language, chemistry, engineering, ACT test preparation and more.

By making an investment in the necessary video conferencing equipment, school districts can save thousands of dollars by enrolling in the no-cost, teacher sharing network.

Each participating class requires a facilitator. Facilitators have a critical role in the success of classes on the DEN network. The facilitator’s role as classroom manager at the remote or receiving sites is to maintain discipline, provide instructional assistance and make the video teacher’s lesson go as smoothly as possible. Teachers and facilitators will be trained and supported by MPB staff to operate the equipment and perform basic troubleshooting tasks.

DEN provides:

  • Highly qualified, certified teachers

  • A network of nearly 30 schools who can provide teachers

  • Classes not offered in rural school districts

  • Effective cost-saving opportunity for school systems by eliminating the cost of a full-time teacher
