On December 1st South Florida PBS hosted a premiere of On the Town in The Palm Beaches - Latin Style at The Box Art Gallery in West Palm Beach . During the screening event, producers of the show guided guests through the vibrant and long-standing history of Latin culture in South Florida first-hand, through the arts, authentic cuisine, and the rich cultural history that makes The Palm Beaches region a unique place to live, work, and visit. Guests also got to enjoy a reception with refreshments from Don Ramon's and a Q&A with producers of On The Town in the Palm Beaches.

On June 23rd South Florida PBS hosted a premiere of On the Town in The Palm Beaches - Caribbean Heritage at the Royal Palm Beach Culture Center . During the screening event, producers of the show guided guests through the rich and important Caribbean Connection first-hand, via a combination of the arts, the delicious cuisine, and the rich cultural history that makes The Palm Beaches region a unique place to live, work, and visit. Guests also got to enjoy a reception and a Q&A with producers of On The Town in the Palm Beaches.


 

South Florida PBS offered its members the opportunity to screen the new Downton Abbey movie: A New Era at the Cinemark Paradise in Davie on May 19th. The excitement was palpable and the experience, unforgettable! Thanks to all who joined us and contributed to making it a very special South Florida PBS members evening.

On Wednesday, May 18, South Florida PBS invited the local community to come together at the L.A. Lee YMCA/Mizell Community Center in Fort Lauderdale for a special reception and screening of the Emmy-winning film Wade in the Water: Drowning in Racism, followed by a live recording of Your South Florida, with expert panel discussions on social justice, public health and swim safety. On April 26, South Florida PBS had a screening of the new episode of On the Town in the Palm Beaches with Frank Licari featuring Eco-Friendly Fun adventures! The event held at Arts Garage in Delray had a wonderful reception and Q & A with host, Frank Licari and producers of On the Town in The Palm Beaches. On Thursday, April 14 South Florida PBS invited the community to the ¿Qué Pasa, USA? Experience at the Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre in Coral Gables! The event provided an immersive Cuban cultural experience which included a marathon of favorite ¿Qué Pasa, USA? episodes, a cocktail reception with delicious treats, a special performance from the Frost School of Music Cafe con Leche ensemble. On Wednesday, March 23rd, South Florida PBS held the Art of the Woman event and showed a preview screening of Great Performances l PBS The Conductor at Doral Contemporary Art Museum. The preview screening was held surrounded by the female-led art exhibit, Inside Outside. After the screening attendees enjoyed performances from the Greater Miami Youth Symphony and Frost School of Music at the University of Miami Woman's Choir. On Thursday, February 20th, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, South Florida PBS and Lynn University held a preview screening of Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr. newest season at Lynn University. The preview screening highlighted excerpts from the first 6 episodes of Season 6. Following the screening, there was a Q&A with Lynn Professor Giancarlo Simpson. You can tune in to watch Finding Your Roots Tuesday's at 8 PM on WPBT and Monday's at 8 PM on WXEL. The preview screening highlighted excerpts from the first 6 episodes of Season 6. The screening was followed by a Q&A with Professor Domenica Diraviam from Broward College, Dr. Rose Mary Stiffin from Florida Memorial University and Diana McKenny the President of the Genealogical Society of Broward county. On Sunday, January 5th South Florida PBS, filmmaker Oscar Corral and Miami Dade College held the premiere screening of Making It In America at the Miami Dade College Koubek Center. The documentary highlights immigrant entrepreneurs of all levels, from multi-millionaire concrete magnate Luis Garcia to the formerly undocumented founder of Lulu’s Ice Cream, Luisa Santos. The screening was followed by a Q&A with a few of protagonists of the success stories featured in the documentary. With over 150 people in attendance, the event was a great success.


 

On Sunday, Dec. 8th, in Celebration of KidVision Music Time, South Florida PBS held a preview screening with Miss Penny and Dolores Sukhdeo, CEO of South Florida PBS at the Miami Theater Center. The screening of KidVision Music Time was followed by a musical petting zoo with musicians from New World Symphony. KidVision Music Time is produced in partnership with New World Symphony and is made possible in part by The Kirk Foundation.

On Monday, March 9th, South Florida PBS and the Miami Dade College Koubek Center hosted a screening of Art Loft featuring some of the Miami Dade Artists highlighted throughout the season. After the complimentary reception and screening, we had a discussion with: Marcelo Ertorteguy and Sarah from StereoTank who specialize in creating experimental sound installations and also teach architect at FIU; Courtney Levine, a curator for Commuter Biennial; Taylor Cavazos with the Wynwood Business Improvement District; Paola Gracey, a pop artist who specializes in drip painting and finally, Sri Prabha, who is a multidisciplinary artist who specializes in video/sound and visual installations.
