We Need a Little Christmas

We Need a Little Christmas

Performed by The Tabernacle Choir & Orchestra at Temple Square, with Kristin Chenoweth

The song “We Need a Little Christmas” originated in Jerry Herman’s 1966 Broadway hit Mame, first performed on stage with Angela Lansbury in the title role, and then played by Lucille Ball in the film version. After the stock market crash of 1929, Auntie Mame tries to hurry up the Christmas preparations, even though it’s still November and the snow hasn’t yet started to fall, hoping it will help take her mind off her lost fortune. Here the Choir’s guest artist Kristin Chenoweth adds her own limitless enthusiasm for Christmas to the song’s bubbly mood of anticipation.

Music and Text: Jerry Herman
Arrangement: Michael Davis
