The Friends of Idaho Public Television, Inc. — a 501(c)(3) nonprofit operating under the laws of the State of Idaho — encourages the solicitation and acceptance of philanthropic gifts to Idaho Public Television. Gifts to the Friends of Idaho Public Television, Inc. can qualify for state and federal tax deductions such as the Idaho Education Tax Credit and are used to help Idaho Public Television further and fulfill its mission.

A four-star rating by Charity Navigator verifies that Friends of Idaho Public Television exceeds industry standards and outperforms most charities in our area of work. Idaho Public Television outperforms most other charities in America; only 17% of the charities evaluated by Charity Navigator have received at least five consecutive four-star evaluations. Charity Navigator evaluates a nonprofit organization’s financial health including measures of stability, efficiency and sustainability. This independent watchdog evaluator also tracks accountability and transparency policies to ensure the good governance and integrity of the organization.
For the fifth consecutive year, the Friends of Idaho Public Television also earned the Platinum Seal of Transparency from Candid (a merger of two philanthropic ratings sites formerly known as GuideStar and Foundation Center), the world’s largest source of information about nonprofit organizations. Candid lists 9,763 nonprofits in Idaho. Only 72 of those are ranked at the Platinum level. Through data, research, and collective experience, Candid provides users with the knowledge they need to make strategic decisions and develop practical solutions to achieve their missions. Their GuideStar database makes it easier to understand nonprofits and what they do.

Public Meetings
The Friends board meets a minimum of four times per year. Meetings are open to the public.
- November 15, 2022 (11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Mountain time/10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Pacific time), video conferenced with the IdahoPTV Boise station.
Organizational Structure
Friends of Idaho Public Television, Inc. has the following corporate officer positions: President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. A representative volunteer board of directors has the following standing committees: Advocacy, Board Recruitment, Endowment, Executive, and Marketing/Development. The organization does not have paid employees. In lieu of a paid staff, day-to-day operations are performed by Idaho Public Television employees that are subject to applicable State of Idaho rules and policies, as well as other integral organizations such as Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

Additionally, this organization has an operating agreement with the Idaho State Board of Education, of which Idaho Public Television is under within the state structure, that recognizes and defines the relationship between the Friends organization and Idaho Public Television.
History Overview
In 1975 the Friends of KISU was formed. Two years later, in 1977, the Friends of KAID and Friends of KUID were formed. In 1985 the Idaho Public Television Foundation was established, incorporated and approved as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization under the laws of the State of Idaho.
On March 27, 2008, Idaho Public Television Foundation, Inc., together with Friends of Idaho Public Television, KAID/KIPT, Inc.; Friends of Idaho Public Television, KISU, Inc.; and Friends of Idaho Public Television, KUID/KCDT, Inc. merged together as one unified organization, which was renamed to Friends of Idaho Public Television, Inc.

The Friends of Idaho Public Television, Inc. is a component unit within Idaho Public Television's audited financial statements. The following reports include information for the Friends organization.
Idaho Public Television has an annual audit of its financial reports, which includes the Friends of Idaho Public Television, Inc. All audits are performed by an independent audit team from the Legislative Audit Division under the Legislative Services Office of the State of Idaho. General Manager Information
The general manager (similar to CEO position) of Idaho Public Television is an employee of the State of Idaho working under the Idaho State Board of Education. That board hires the general manager and works with the division of human resources and utilizes various employee studies to determine and vote upon the compensation for the position.
