ABOUT 'A CELTIC CHRISTMAS: IRISH JIG ON “IN DULCI JUBILO”'

LISTEN TO THE FULL SONG

Music: Traditional carol
Arrangement: Richard Elliott

Richard Elliott’s spectacular organ solos have delighted audiences at The Tabernacle Choir’s Christmas concerts for many years. They highlight Elliott’s remarkable gifts as a performer and arranger, and the Conference Center’s magnificent Schoenstein organ, but they also illuminate the concert’s overarching theme, programming, and design.

This year, with a focus on Celtic Christmas traditions, Elliott took the modal, medieval tune of the ancient chant-based carol “In dulci jubilo” and turned it into an Irish jig. He was aided by Danny Soulier (bodhrán), Daron Bradford (penny whistle), and Micah Fleming (Irish fiddle)—all members of the Orchestra at Temple Square.
