When Sensationalism Became Fake News
WEDNESDAY, September 29 at 7 p.m.:
AMERICAN EXPERIENCE presents a virtual PAST FORWARD conversation exploring the rise of fake news from its roots in yellow journalism to the present.
This event, inspired by the AMERICAN EXPERIENCE film Citizen Hearst, will examine the ubiquity of William Randolph Hearst’s media empire, the novel tactics he employed to build it, and its lasting impact on journalism today.

Andie Tucher - Historian and author of Not Exactly Lying: Fake News and Fake Journalism in American History
The conversation will be moderated by Kelly McBride, Senior Vice President of The Poynter Institute and Public Editor for NPR.

Since 2019, this community-wide conversation has led to 19 community projects, from cooking classes to podcasts to diversity training for local businesses. Central Florida Foundation has provided $25,000 in microgrants to help people in our community bring their ideas to life, and your idea could be next.
