The recent protests in California against the Trump administration's immigration enforcement actions have caught the eye of Democrats and Republicans in Florida.
Several Florida lawmakers are pushing a proposal to redirect some Tourist Development Tax dollars away from tourism-related interests and towards other priorities, including infrastructure and property tax relief. The idea had been in the works until close to the end of recent budget and tax negotiations, but was eventually dropped.
The state’s Board of Governors rejected the candidate chosen to lead the University of Florida, despite unanimous support from UF’s Board of Trustees. The selection of Santa Ono, the former president of the University of Michigan, followed a months-long search process.
