Mysteries of Mental Illness Screening and Panel Discussion

PBS North Carolina and NAMI North Carolina present a special preview screening of curated clips from Mysteries of Mental Illness, a new film that explores the evolution in understanding the difficult questions surrounding mental illness people have grappled with throughout history. 

Following the screening, you will participate in a virtual panel discussion featuring local experts in the mental health field. We encourage you to ask questions throughout the screening and discussion via the virtual chat feature. Discussion topics will include accessibility and cultural barriers to mental health care, COVID-19's exacerbation of mental health issues, eliminating the stigma around mental health and more.

Following the preview screening of Philly D.A. from Independent Lens, PBS North Carolina's Deborah Holt Noel moderated a discussion on the criminal legal system, prosecutorial reform and social justice and equality.

Discussion | Muni REEL SOUTH Screening

Following the film screening on March 30, REEL SOUTH series producer Nick Price hosted an engaging discussion with filmmaker Paul Bonesteel, and golfer C.Y. Young (featured in the film), highlighting how this story came to film, the history of the groundbreaking Skyview Annual Pro Am Golf Tournament and the state of golf in Asheville today.

Jeff Polish, executive director of The Monti, moderated a discussion on the power of personal storytelling with our panelists, Omisade Burney-Scott and Sabrina Saleha, who are featured in The Story of Us, NC, a half-hour special featuring North Carolinians using their voices to tell stories to inspire, entertain and paint a portrait of modern America.
