Internships at PBS North Carolina

PBS North Carolina offers a robust internship program for currently enrolled students interested in public media. Areas of interest include marketing and communications, business administration, fundraising, social media, production, post-production, editing and much more.

Our internship program provides students with transformational experiences and offers a trusted learning experience for students interested in a variety of media careers. We strive to serve our interning students as thoroughly and passionately as we do the rest of North Carolina.

Digital Marketing Intern

The Digital Marketing intern will help the team with planning, evaluating and managing marketing promotions in line with our strategy across multiple initiatives and platforms. This position supports the Digital Marketing team's focus to meet changing audience behaviors by creating rich digital content experiences across platforms, including pbsnc.org, the PBS app, and 3rd party platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.


Original Productions Lifestyle & Culture Intern

The Original Productions Lifestyle and Culture intern will assist a producer in the development of broadcast and social media content for the weekly travel series North Carolina Weekend and the public affairs series Black Issues Forum. This is an excellent opportunity for a student with a passion for storytelling, an enthusiasm for North Carolina culture and history, and an interest in public policy and Black studies.


Original Productions Public Affairs Intern

The Original Productions Public Affairs intern will gain skills related to digital content creation, studio-based TV program production, and post-production, as well as project management and content distribution. This intern can expect a fully robust experience in project coordination, associate producing, video editing, working with on-air talent, adhering to deadlines, various production duties and digital distribution.


Production Assistant Intern

PBS NC is looking for a self-motivated, creative and flexible Production Assistant intern to join a fast-paced and dynamic Studio and Field Production team. This intern will work closely with select members of the PBS NC Production team to experience live-to-tape weekly show productions as well as field shoots for local broadcast and digital programs.


Visual & Broadcast Design Intern

The Visual & Broadcast Design Intern supports the PBS North Carolina Creative Team in the development and execution of visual design assets that promote programming, campaigns, and organizational initiatives. The intern assists with the creation of brand-aligned graphics and marketing materials while gaining exposure to the public media production environment. This role provides practical experience in a collaborative creative setting and contributes to projects that support storytelling and community engagement across North Carolina.


Criteria for Applying

  • Be currently enrolled in a constituent institution within the University of North Carolina system
    AND
  • Be at least a full-time undergraduate student (12 semester hours) or graduate student (9 semester hours) 
    OR
  • Be a recent graduate (after Spring 2025) from a constituent institution within the University of North Carolina system

Our Goals for Interning Students

  • To make an impact on a student’s work life and career path.
  • To prepare students for careers in their desired media field.
  • To help students gain the necessary experience to position them ahead of the pack.
  • To provide foundational first-hand experience with collaboration, problem-solving and hands-on project experience.

What Interns Can Expect From Their Experience

  • Start date in early June 2026.
  • Occasion to shadow immersive experiences such as production shoots and/or watching a live taping of a studio production.
  • An invitation to connect directly with senior leaders and our executive team.
  • Participation in a “job shadow day," involving spending time with other internship supervisors to gain an understanding of how each department within the organization is interconnected to achieve our mission.
  • Opportunity to provide feedback on the internship program in order to help shape experiences for future students.
