If you were unable to attend the Colfax Canvas art festival in Aurora on August 1, don’t worry. There is still plenty of time to see and learn about more than a dozen new murals along E. Colfax Ave.
“The city is starting to become more known for murals, so bringing [murals] this far down Colfax is kind of beautiful to see,” said graffiti artist Ruben Del Cabrera.
Fans of murals can now go on a self-guided tour of new art work along E. Colfax Ave.
Colfax Canvas event producer Ryan Foo said the Aurora Cultural Arts District (ACAD) has wanted to do a mural festival for a while, but that it had to be done the right way.
“So that it represented the community,” Foo said. “It came up from the ground.”
Foo said the Colfax Canvas website will be live for at least a year, so anybody can take a walking mural tour when it suits them. All people have to do is go to the website and follow the guided prompts.
The Colfax Canvas site also provides artists bios so people can learn about muralists like Del Cabrera and Ally Grimm, who paints under the name A.L. Grime.
Grimm’s mural, which is located along Florence St near E. Colfax Ave, depicts an Aurora woman named Lucia.
“She’s a model, she’s an activist, and she’s Peruvian,” Grimm said. “The building is owned by a Peruvian family who has a soccerplex, so we wanted to honor their history, honor their roots, but also celebrate the community and the people who make Aurora special.”
