Telling Stories of the Real South

REEL SOUTH completed its fourth remarkable season of Southern filmmaking with new host, Memphis native and musical artist Valerie June. The season kicked off with Grammy®-nominated Two Trains Runnin’, about a search for two forgotten Mississippi blues singers during the height of the civil rights movement and continues the season with stories about a Latina woman taking sanctuary in a North Carolina church to avoid deportation, a stalwart homeless community reeling from the effects of development in Nashville, and, in Texas, passionate voices protesting a pipeline crossing Native lands.

The Carolinas’ two statewide public television networks, UNC-TV Public Media North Carolina and South Carolina ETV partner to create this revelatory series' new season.
