UNC-TV WINS EMMY AWARDS IN SIX CATEGORIES

UNC-TV Team Recognized with 15 Statues During 33rd Midsouth Regional Emmy Awards

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, 2/19/2019—Producers from UNC-TV Public Media North Carolina, North Carolina’s statewide public media network, won EMMY® Awards in six categories from the Nashville/Midsouth Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) during ceremonies Saturday night in Nashville, TN.

When the night’s celebratory festivities concluded at Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center, representatives of UNC-TV’s Content production teams collected a total of 15 award statues to add to the network’s display cases of Emmy and other industry awards at its headquarters in Research Triangle Park, NC.

During its 33rd annual awards ceremony, NATAS awarded its Midsouth Regional Emmy® Awards to the following UNC-TV winners:

Best Historical/Cultural Program Feature
Edwin Gil/Upcycled Glass from MUSE, a look at the amazing works of art made from upcycled glass by Charlotte artist Edwin Gil, was produced by Jonathan Duran.

Best Arts Feature
Muse 126, featuring photographer Daniel Pullen, poet Tyree Daye and homesteader Jessica Green. UNC-TV Public Media North Carolina’s Katy Loebrich and Morgan Potts produced, with video by Jonathan Duran.

Best Entertainment Feature
Hobey Ford, Puppeteer, from MUSE, a profile of master puppeteer Hobey Ford, was produced by Morgan Potts.

Best Magazine Program
My Home, NC, a glimpse into the unique and important voices in hometowns across North Carolina.The UNC-TV Public Media North Carolina team consisted of Heather Burgiss (producer), Miriam McSpadden (videographer), Jonathan Duran (associate producer), Nathan Shepherd (audio), Amy Meiggs (editor) and Galen Black (executive producer).

Best Instructional/Informational Series
UNC-TV Science Middle School Animations from the team of Paula Edelson (producer), Melissa Salpietra (writer and animator) and Galen Black (executive producer).

Best Video Essay
A Little Weather: Jessica Green from Muse, an introduction to homesteader Jessica Green in the hills of Appalachia, was produced by Morgan Potts.
